and when she speaks

Friday, October 17, 2008

In about 2 months' time, I will turn 21.

Being 20 just flew by.
I remember celebrating my last birthday up in the air, after trying my luck with the steward trying to be pushed to first class- unfortunately, well we all know what that means ;) I should have tried blatant flirting but cannot la.. I've got my pride ;)

Plus when I arrived at the queue, I saw hundreds - it looked like I was never going to get into the plane on time- hundreds of Hong Kong & China students flying home at the same time from the Toronto airport...

I remember entering the plane on Dec 16 and arriving in Malaysia on Dec 18- so my real birthday was celebrated up in the air.

Nevertheless, it was a great ride because I met a great companion =) who gave me a peck on my cheek cheekily as my birthday gift ;) We both had fun, resting our heads on each other's shoulders taking our turns in doing so throughout that 20 hour flight... and then I called him 'brother' and he cried out 'Ouch! You just broke my heart' :p
We had a great time. Then, we became travel buddies on the airplane :)

Anyway, back to 20--- being a 3rd year med student made time fly by so quickly... Seriously I don't know if I did enjoy all that I accomplished because I remember working so hard but then again, I am so glad; as I reminisce; to have had such great wonderful friends who have been absolutely steadfast in supporting me throughout my endless overwhelming periods...when I was so occupied with working in the hospital, and sleeping in the hospital being on-call... studying for the exams, catching up on SLEEP, and trying my hardest not to desert all my friends- juggling as best as I can moments to hang out with them and not let fatigue take away my ability to 'live in the present' when with them...there were times I felt guilty for having to reject so many times...hoping so hard they'd understand.

Times when I was really stressed out- I learnt to take them into perspective after I talked to my patients because most of them had issues I had never faced before- serious life-threatening concerns that were matters I could never envision having to cope with... They gave me strength and made me stronger, made me appreciate all that I have, and most importantly; made me thankful.

NYC has been an absolute blast.
I haven't updated my blog as much as I'd like but I am trying to. I'm being lazy la...

I'm glad I've made some friends here pretty quickly and have my weekends occupied with friends :) I cannot CANNOT survive not talking to people or I'd go crazy.
And I'm a social butterfly la... I love being around people- even when I have those moods where I'm just too plain lazy to make the effort to talk or strike up a conversation- at least I've company by my side :)

Last weekend, Ken Lin came down from Upstate and splurged on malaysian food. Guess who got to enjoy the ride  too? ;) We had so much food, it was insane. It was just two of us , waiting for Ernie in the M'sian restaurant and we ordered a ginormous amount to the extent eyes were on our table ;) We had pork chop, Hainanese chicken with rice, ais kacang, kangkung belacan and ma po Tau Fu ;) It was so good. Then Ernie came and we had wine in Little Italy, where all the quaint Italian restaurants are.

The next day, there was a Malaysian gathering at Jocelyn's rooftop apartment. It was a gorgeous day to have it outside- sunny and beautiful. There were egg tarts :) Magnolia cupcakes (from sex and the city if u remember), laksa, nasi lemak... *woah...* and of course, never complete without good wine. It's called Blue Goose. I accidentally ter-named it Grey Goose, much to the amusement of AiPing and her boyfriend :)
For dinner, we left to Max and Crispin's apartment and they cooked for us all =) We had his famous chicken-baked rice ;) and played Wi.

This weekend, a dimsum outing on Saturday for lunch ;)
And the RAYA bazaar on Sunday =) Another opportunity to take pretty pictures :)

One more day of Derm.
Then I have a week of vacation---to STUDY for my second last med licensing exam!
ANd I'll be done with exams for awhile ;) *claps hand in joy*

Yes, if you all have noticed if you've accidentally seen my pictures after getting tagged on facebook- I am much rounder on my face *sobs*

Winter should hopefully burn it away *wishful thinking?* :p

LOve you all very very much! *muacks*
